Testin, Learnin, And A Bit Of Strugglin
This month was mostly about two things. The playtest, and marketing. And oh boy, did things go well with both! However, there is one thing that continues to mess with me. One thing I've been putting a bunch of time into, but still haven't completed yet. And it's the backgrounds! They've been a bit tough. But let's get into it all here!
Another Round Of Save The Hero!
I was surprised by how much people were into it! I made this game with the intention of only being interesting for a few minutes at a time. Something fun to do while waiting, you know? But during the playtest, people stuck around and played for well over an hour! Some even over two!
One person was crazy enough to build up a ton of money (using a bug ;-; ) to buy the most expensive item in the shop! I told him over and over though that it did nothing at this phase, but he still went for it! And here's a video of the mad man at work getting enough to buy the item!
There are different coin values besides copper, silver and gold. He found the "Ghost Coins". The current highest tier coin.
Makin, This must have taken, like, 30 minutes to do!
Achievement!
How To ACTUALLY Make Money
Oh my gosh I've been so lost on this stuff for so long! For what I understood, this is one of the most crucial puzzle pieces of making a living making video games. "If you can't market your game, no one will know of it and no one will buy it!" were words I kept hearing. So this month, I decided to look up more about it, and man I found so much stuff!
At first I understood it so little I didn't even know how to research it! But now I have so much information! And I know I'm still only scratching the surface. I feel like I have the basics of basics when it comes to this stuff, but hopefully that will be enough to start.
I'm still gathering info, but soon I'll be able to put together some good plans and hopefully start building up a following! There's a lot still left to do, but I'm happy I finally got an idea of what to do when it comes to marketing a game.
Little Things, Future Plans, and Extra
Though this is just a small thing, it's been a little difficult. I have several background pieces to make, and they're all made of a million tiny cubes! It's been taking longer than expected to make them. Because of that, I haven't been able to get to the other parts like the wizard animations and other placeholder art. But I'll do my best to get all the placeholder stuff this month! That's the plan!
However, this month is a little different. I recently got a job and are moving out of the US and into Canada. I got to get use to an entirely new place. New apartment, new country, new language (1/2 the people in this section of Canada speak French), plus learn how to work around this new job. So I'm not sure how the month will go! But I do know that in no way will it stop me from working on this game. Well, I'll let you all know how it goes in a month from now.
If you want to keep up with how that goes, feel free to join the discord or say hi while I'm streaming on twitch! Links below, and thanks for reading!
