Every time I think I've created air tight code, the character starts buggin it's way through walls! So at the moment, I'm having a bit of trouble getting collision code to work correctly. It's slowed me down but hasn't stopped me! I should have the collision fixed soon though. The next plan after that is to figure out the exact size of the character in relation to the size of the rooms she will be running through. After that I'll make a simple mock up level and I'll have something to show! It won't be too pretty, but it will be playable! Stay tuned.

I'm super close to having a playable game! Not the completed one mind you (that's still a waaaaaaayyys away) but one with tasks, objectives, input, etc. I thought I got to that point today until I found some errors in collision detection. I'm now going back and setting up, what I think is, a complex collision detection system. I think I should be done by tomorrow, but since I'm still kinda new at "professional" game making, it's tough and difficult for me to understand. That makes it take a little longer than it might for others. Still I say BRING ON THE CHALLENGE!!! I love me a good challenge, and coding is like a crazy hard puzzle so it makes it fun! Stay tuned!
So to quickly sum up what the game is; It is a 2D side scrolling endless runner with monsters to fight and puzzles to solve on the fly.
as you progress through the endless level, you would go through pre-determined "room-chunks" that would seamlessly connect together. they would connect with 1, 2, or 3 different connection points. I needed to figure out how to build the chunks, how to store them in memory, and how to re-create them where they randomly spawn (a little at a time as to not overload the computer) and line up with the previous room. It took a while but I'm pretty proud for figuring out how to do it! Today I'm working on the main character and their collision. After, I'll start the art for it, make sound effects, and a background song. At that point I should have a fully playable game (even though it is missing a TON of things)! Then I'll just keep adding things from there. It's gonna be cool! Hello and Welcome! This is my first attempt at actually making and selling a fully completed video game.I've made little things in the past, and worked on teams for both game jams and multi month projects. Using what I've learned I'm going to make some crazy awesome games!
This one in pear-tickler is about a magic gem miner whose lunch is stolen by a crazy wizard. Now the miner must chase after the wizard through the underground mines, fighting through the weird and crazy monsters the wizard summons to keep you off his trail! I want to add things like, upgrade shops and boss battles, but I also don't want to spend many many months making this game. One of my goals is to ACTUALLY complete the game. At the moment it doesn't have a name, so I've been calling it "endless runner". |
